This book is a mix between the Hunger Games and The Bachelor. It was like the Hunger Games because each family was sectioned off into different caste systems based on the family income. This book was such an easy read. I was sucked in during the first couple of pages. I know this book has been out a while but I am finally getting onto reading it and I don't know why I waited so long.
I immediately fell in love with the main character America Singer. She was such a hard headed young women who knew what she wanted. She was in a secretive relationship with Aspen a boy from her caste. Her parents did not know she was in a relationship with this young man, therefore, her mom kind of forced/persuaded her to enter into the selection. Aspen also wanted her to enter into the selection because he wanted her to not settle for him because he was not going to be able to give her the life she wanted and he thinks she deserves. She gives in and decides to enter into the selection because she thought she probably would never be nominated............but she was.
Then the selection starts America is now living at the palace with the price and the king and queen. The first night she was overwhelmed and homesick she just wanted to go to the palace garden to get some air. The guards wouldn't let her. In comes Prince Maxon who says to let the lady go. This starts the relationship that Prince Maxon and Lady America. Remember America is a stubborn young women so the first time they meet she practically yells at him. In the beginning America told the truth her Prince Maxon that she is only here because she was forced to and that she was in love with her old boyfriend.
As of now I don't know who I want her to be with. The relationship between her and the Prince is a fun friendly relationship and he told her that he would keep her their as long as he could because with her in the competition her family gets money to live on. I think this relationship could progress into something more. I liked her and her relationship with Aspen because it was her first love and he sacrificed his happiness to let America have a better life than he could provide for her.
I can't wait to start book 2 in this series.
